Tactical Lessons and Future Hope, Chatama says Ekhaya Will Trouble Giants Soon

Ekhaya FC head coach Enos Chatama has conceded that his team is lacking experience but says his players are learning fast and are on the right track.

“You could see that we conceded due to poor tactical organization and lack of timely adjustments. The players did not react quickly enough to close down Gaddie Chirwa before that goal. But all in all, it is a new team, a young squad. There is hope for the future because a team grows as it continues getting game time,” he explained.

He then stated, “In the future, these big teams—Bullets and Wanderers—will start feeling the pressure when they face us.”

He also shared that his tactical approach—to shut down Wanderers’ space in the first half and push for a goal in the second—was working. Despite Wanderers having high-caliber players like Wisdom Mpinganjira, Chirwa, and Francisco Madinga and enjoying more possession, Ekhaya’s defense held firm and limited their shots on target—apart from that one decisive moment.

The gaffer was reacting to the team’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Mighty Wanderers on Sunday, July 13, at Kamuzu Stadium in a TNM Super League clash.

Chirwa was the scorer of the lone goal in the 54th minute after being teed up by Blessings Singini, who, after 90 minutes of relentless play, was deservedly voted Man of the Match.

Chirwa’s rocket sailing past Missi in the 54th minute. The ball was brilliantly crafted to the top corner, way from the goalie’s reach. A moment that decided the outcome of the game

Ekhaya now sit 4th on the 16-team log, having played 12 games from which they have collected 20 points—recording 6 wins, 2 draws, and 4 losses.

Their next showdown is set for Sunday, July 20, again at Kamuzu Stadium, where they will host the military outfit Moyale Barracks, fresh off a 1-1 stalemate against third-placed Silver Strikers.

There is still concern that Ekhaya may be without their skipper, Innocent Msowoya, who remains sidelined with an injury, and forward Emmanuel Saviel, who is still recovering from an ankle issue.

Wanderers are sponspored by Thomson Mpinganjira who owns Ekhaya Farms and also the team’s president while Ekhaya are owned by William Mpinganjira-a son to Thomson and an overseer of Ekhaya brands. It was a family affair, and in the picture below, coaches from both teams show that despite the result, no love lost.
