Silver Strikers Women maintained their perfect start to the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership season with a commanding 6-1 victory over Topik Academy at Silver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Bankers, coming off an impressive 2-1 win over Ascent Academy, got off to a flying start when Linda Manda opened the scoring just three minutes into the match. However, Topik Academy responded quickly, with Martha Mwakikunga equalizing from a free kick in the 23rd minute.
Silver Strikers regained their advantage five minutes later through an unfortunate own goal by Topik’s Chrissy Chirambo. The floodgates then opened as Wezzie Mvula extended the lead with a fine finish in the 38th minute, before Manda completed her brace two minutes before halftime.

The second half belonged entirely to the hosts, with Deborah Henry adding two more goals to seal the comprehensive victory and take her season tally to five goals.
Post-Match Reactions
Silver Strikers head coach Andrew Chikhosi expressed satisfaction with the result while acknowledging the challenge posed by their opponents.
“It was a bit tough because our opponents came just to disrupt our game, so the girls felt pressure—that’s why we conceded that goal. But overall, we came into the game well and managed to secure the win,” said Chikhosi. “We want to accumulate as many points as possible before the league gets tougher.”
Topik Academy assistant coach Kelvin Bwayala remained philosophical about the defeat, emphasizing his team’s development process.
“We are still building this team, and as you know, it’s full of youngsters, but we’re improving with each game. I’m pleased to see us scoring in big matches like this,” said Bwayala. “Today, our goalkeeper didn’t perform well, which is why we conceded so many goals.”
The victory extends Silver Strikers’ perfect record to four wins from four matches, giving them 12 points and opening a three-point gap over second-placed Kukoma Ntopwa Queens and third-placed Mighty Wanderers Women.
Meanwhile, Topik Academy remain rooted to the bottom of the table with zero points from their four fixtures.
In the race for the golden boot, Deborah Henry’s double takes her to the top of the scoring charts with five goals, one ahead of Ascent Academy’s Leticia Chinyamula.
