TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers have settled for their former coach Etson-Kadenge Mwafulirwa to lead the team in the CAF Champions League, reports Nation Sports.
The Bankers were compelled to seek a new coach after current head coach Peter Mgangira’s CAF B license failed to meet the Confederation of African Football’s minimum qualification requirements for their tournaments, which mandate a CAF A license.

Mgangira was appointed earlier this year following Peter Mponda’s departure to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. Mponda had guided Silver Strikers to the 2024 league championship before his exit.
Wa Mpira reported in July that Silver Strikers were considering rehiring Kadenge, with initial discussions already underway.
Kadenge first joined the club in 2022 after a successful stint with Missi City Hammers, where he secured promotion to the TNM Super League and led the team to the 2021 FDH Bank Cup final, where they lost to Silver Strikers.
His previous tenure at Silver Strikers ended controversially in 2023. While serving as assistant coach under Pieter De Jongh, Kadenge was suspended for alleged misconduct.
Although the club’s disciplinary committee later cleared him of wrongdoing, De Jongh refused to reinstate him to the technical team. The club considered redeploying Kadenge to the Reserve team before both parties mutually agreed to part ways, as reported by Wa Mpira.
Now, 15 months later, Silver Strikers have struck an agreement to bring Kadenge back to Area 47. While discussions continue, it remains unclear whether the coach will remain with the club beyond the CAF Champions League campaign.
Silver Strikers will host Madagascar champions Elgeco Plus at Bingu National Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League preliminary round between September 19-21, with the return leg scheduled for a week later in Mauritius.
Meanwhile, Mighty Wanderers will host Botswana giants Gwaneng Galaxies on September 21 in their CAF Confederation Cup fixture.
Both Malawian clubs must finalize player registrations before CAF closes the registration window this evening.
