The Bankers wrapped up their journey to the Southern Region this season in style, beating FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women 1-0 to maintain their winning streak in the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership.
After a goalless first half that saw both teams evenly matched, the Bankers broke the deadlock through Deborah Henry. The striker was brilliantly set up by Yamikani Mhango in the 50th minute, scoring her 10th goal in seven straight matches in the league.
Silver Strikers head coach Andrew Chikhosi was delighted to see his team record another win in Blantyre.
“It was quite a tough game. You know when these two teams face each other it is very tight, but we wanted much from this game and I’m very happy that my players fought hard to win,” he said.

Having completed all their assignments in the Southern Region during the first round, Chikhosi expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance this season.
“We have a few things that we need to look at, but as of now I think it has gone beyond our expectations and we are happy with that,” Chikhosi added.
Meanwhile, his opposite number, Maggie Chombo-Sadick of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women, hailed her players for their efforts despite the defeat.
“We have played three games in a space of seven days and today’s defeat could be because of fatigue, but the players still fought hard.”
“The fatigue is also costing us a lot because we had Mary Chavinda who got injured in the dressing room, Sharon Dzimau who started feeling unwell when she was already here, and in the game, Zainab Kapanda and Chikondi Mgodi have all picked up injuries. It is not looking good for us,” explained Chombo-Sadick.
The Bankers have maintained a five-point gap at the top of the league with 24 points from eight wins, having scored 21 goals and conceded just five.
Bullets Women have dropped to fourth in the league with 13 points from four wins, one draw, and three defeats.
Deborah Henry leads the golden boot race with 10 goals from eight games, two ahead of pace-setter Mayamiko Mkandawire of Ascent Academy.
