Fresh off two consecutive victories, Silver Strikers are set to play their 14th game of the season, welcoming Mighty WakaWaka Tigers to Silver Stadium this Saturday, August 2.
The Central Bankers are in formidable form, having dispatched Ekhaya FC with a 3-1 victory and Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos 2-1 in their previous home games. In contrast, the Tigers are winless in their last two outings, following a 0-0 draw with Kamuzu Barracks with a narrow 1-0 loss to Civil Service United.
Historically, matchups between these two sides have been fiercely competitive and unpredictable, often defying current form. The Tigers have a reputation for being a thorn in the Bankers’ side, famously derailing Silver’s title ambitions in past seasons.

Silver Strikers head coach Peter Mgangira acknowledges the Tigers’ unpredictable nature but sees this game as an opportunity to rewrite the narrative.
“We have told the players not to be swayed by past results. We have a chance to secure three points tomorrow, and we will do our best,” Mgangira stated. “We’ll be playing at home with our fans, and we expect them to turn out in good numbers to support our good run.”
Mgangira also noted the team’s strong morale and physical condition, despite a demanding schedule of three games in the past five days.
“There are fatigue concerns in the camp, but we’re managing the players well. Confidence is building, and we have players returning from injury who are available for selection.”
Mighty WakaWaka Tigers Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, anticipates a tough battle. “Silver is in top form, and we are well aware that this will be a difficult game,” he said. “We’re appealing to our supporters in Lilongwe to come out and back us at Silver Stadium.”
The Bankers currently sit in third place with 26 points from 13 games, having secured seven wins, five draws, and just one loss. The Tigers, on the other hand, are fighting to escape the relegation zone. They are in 14th place on the 16-team log, with just 14 points from 13 matches, having won four, drawn two, and lost seven.
