Renowned football analyst Charles Nyirenda has sharply criticized Silver Strikers’ first-half performance in the Capital City derby against Civil Service United at Bingu National Stadium.
Nyirenda, serving as a co-commentator for Zodiak Radio, branded the Central Bankers’ play as reminiscent of a “Division League” team.
The match, a crucial Airtel Top 8 Cup semi-final, saw Silver Strikers struggling to impress, despite being Malawi’s representatives in the upcoming 2025-26 CAF Champions League after their 2024 TNM Super League triumph.

“I’m not happy with the way Silver Strikers are playing,” Nyirenda stated emphatically on air. “I’m the gatekeeper here in Malawi; they are going to represent us at CAF, they have to show us that they are our representatives.”
He continued, expressing his disappointment: “They are playing like a team from Division League. People have paid their money to watch good football.”
Nyirenda acknowledged a slight improvement towards the end of the half, noting, “The first 15 minutes, we were watching a football of Premier Division, but the last 10 minutes have been better.”
