Nyambose: First Points Will Unlock More Wins

Songwe Border United head coach Christopher Nyambose believes his side only needs their first win of the season to kickstart better performances, saying the team has improved significantly and is beginning to take shape.

He made the remarks following the team’s tough start to their debut season in Malawi’s elite league, where they have managed just one point from seven matches.

Even more concerning, Songwe Border have conceded 21 goals while scoring only three—averaging three goals conceded per match, a worrying statistic for the rookies.

Despite the poor run, Nyambose remains optimistic, noting that his squad has shown promising signs in recent games.

“In the past three games, we’ve seen great changes in the boys. They are now playing better, though they lack some experience. But they’ve shown good character, and that tells me we can do better,” he said.

The former Chitipa United and Mighty Tigers coach added that one win could completely change their season.“We just need a key. If we get our first three points, then more will follow. We’ll catch up, especially since many teams haven’t started well and are still struggling. One win can open the way for more,” added Nyambose.

He is hopeful that their breakthrough might come on Saturday when they take on Karonga United at Karonga Stadium—a match he described as a derby.

The rookies picked up their first point in a 1-1 draw against Mzuzu City Hammers but have suffered defeats to Moyale Barracks (0-1), Blue Eagles (0-4), FCB Nyasa Big Bullets (0-7), MAFCO (1-2), Silver Strikers (1-4), and Creck Sporting Club (0-2) in their opening seven league fixtures.
