Malawi Flames duo Patrick Mwaungulu and Lanjesi Nkhoma proved their worth on Thursday as they helped TP Mazembe salvage a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Union Sportive Tshinkunku at Stade de Tshinkunku.
Mwaungulu opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a powerful header, connecting perfectly with Nkhoma’s pinpoint cross to give the visitors an early advantage. However, the result brought Mazembe’s impressive six-game winning streak to an end.
US Tshinkunku entered the match desperate for points after a difficult three-game winless run—two losses and one draw—and the home crowd gave them the impetus to challenge the 20-time Linafoot champions.

The hosts refused to be intimidated by Mazembe’s reputation. After falling behind, Tshinkunku fought back with determination, and their persistence paid off when Lukubama Mvulutu rose highest to meet a long free-kick from near the halfway line, powering a bullet header past the goalkeeper to level the scores.
The draw means Mazembe missed the opportunity to open a three-point gap over second-placed Simba, who are riding high on a four-game winning streak. Instead, the Ravens maintain a slender one-point advantage at the top of the table with 27 points from 12 matches, while Simba have 26 points from the same number of games.
Despite the dropped points, Mazembe remain in excellent form this season with an impressive record: eight wins, three draws, and just one defeat. They have scored 26 goals while conceding only six, showcasing both attacking prowess and defensive solidity.
Both Mwaungulu and Nkhoma, who joined Mazembe last season from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, endured limited playing time early in the campaign. However, their fortunes have changed dramatically in recent weeks. The pair have started the last four matches and are increasingly proving themselves to be vital components of the team’s success.
Their growing influence suggests that coach Lamine N’Diaye has found a winning combination, and the Malawian internationals will be keen to maintain their places in the starting lineup as Mazembe push for another Linafoot title.
