Silver Strikers face a significant defensive setback as they prepare to take on Civil Service United in Saturday’s 2025 FDH Cup semifinal at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, with center back Nickson Mwase ruled out through suspension.
Mwase will be forced to watch from the terraces after accumulating two yellow cards in the competition – one against Blue Eagles in the quarterfinal and another against Shire FC in the round of 16. His absence comes at a crucial time for the Bankers, who are looking to bounce back from their CAF Champions League exit last weekend.
The suspension compounds Silver Strikers’ defensive woes, as Mwase will be joined on the sidelines by fellow center back Emmanuel Kaunga, who is nursing a groin injury sustained during training last month. The loss of both central defenders will force head coach Peter Mponda to reshuffle his backline for the high-stakes semifinal clash.

On a brighter note, Festus Duwe is available for selection after returning to full training two weeks ago. The Airtel Top 8 top goal scorer, who had been sidelined for months, has been training with the squad and could provide a vital attacking boost.
Chinsisi Maonga is also back in contention after serving a club suspension and rejoins the squad for the weekend’s fixture.
However, Gift Chunga and Tatenda M’balaka remain unavailable as they continue their rehabilitation. M’balaka is recovering from Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery, while Chunga is working his way back from a knee injury. Neither player is expected to feature this weekend.
