FCB Nyasa Big Bullets suffered a 2-0 defeat to Silver Strikers on Sunday in the FCB @30 trophy, part of First Capital Bank’s 30th Anniversary Celebration Match at Bingu National Stadium. Binwell Katinji opened the scoring for Silver just nine minutes into the game, with Innocent Shema sealing the win from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.
The match provided a crucial opportunity for Bullets’ head coach Peter Mponda to assess his fringe players amidst the demanding TNM Super League title race and other cup competitions. Paul Master, Dominic Musonda, Clever Mkungula, Chikumbutso Henderson, and Lameck Gamphani were all given starting berths, with the game holding particular significance for midfielder Paul Master.
Master joined FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on a free transfer this season after his contract with Blue Eagles expired, and had yet to make an appearance for the club. Similarly, Henderson, signed from Mzuzu City Hammers, also made his debut.

Despite the defeat, Peter Mponda expressed satisfaction with certain aspects of his team’s performance, particularly highlighting Paul Master’s display.
“I’m very disappointed with the result, but I’m pleased with how we played overall,” Mponda stated after the game. “One big positive was the performance of Paul Master. It’s been a while since he played, but today, in his first official match as a Bullets player, he dominated the midfield. He really bossed it. That gives us something to be happy about.”
Master’s impressive performance on Sunday could see him earn more minutes for the Bullets, especially with the impending transfer of Yankho Singo, who is currently undergoing medicals at Lamontville Golden Arrows in South Africa.
Bullets will quickly return to action on Wednesday when they face ambitious Ekhaya FC in the TNM Super League. A rematch with Silver Strikers is also on the horizon, as the two giants will clash again on July 12th in the Airtel Top 8 Cup final, also at Bingu National Stadium.
