Young Eagles 91-21 CEDAR

The Malawi Police Service (MPS)-sponsored Young Eagles netball club moved closer to claiming the 2025 Mpico K47 million Central Region netball league championship following their emphatic 91-21 victory over CEDAR at Civo Stadium netball court on Saturday.

The comprehensive win maintains Young Eagles’ two-point lead over rivals Boma Sisters, who were awarded maximum points after Lioness Youth failed to appear for their scheduled fixture.

Young Eagles head coach Maureen Munthali Mopiwa praised her players for delivering their biggest winning margin of the season.
“I’m very happy and excited about the victory, but credit should go to the girls for their fighting spirit,” Mopiwa said.

“We have registered a victory with a wide margin which will help us in determining the champion. We are now focusing on our final game against Boma, which will be mouth-watering since they are also a good side.”

The victory leaves Young Eagles sitting pretty at the top of the standings with 14 points from seven games, having scored 464 goals while conceding 155. Their goal difference of +309 gives them a significant advantage in the title race.

Boma Sisters remain in second place with 12 points from six games, recording five wins and one loss. They have netted 354 goals while conceding 148, giving them a goal difference of +206.

The stage is now set for a thrilling title decider when the two sides meet in their final fixture, with Young Eagles needing just a point to secure the championship.

Elsewhere in the league, Atlas edged Belinda in a nail-biting encounter, winning 36-34 in what proved to be another fierce battle between the two sides.
Dyna Queens maintained their third position with a commanding performance, thrashing CEDAR 73-24 to register another comprehensive victory.

In the Dowa district league, several matches took place with varying results: Mitembo defeated Moya 19-02
Venom claimed a 35-25 victory over Great Minds, Mponela dominated Moya 67-02 while KIA secured a convincing 45-10 win over Venom

The K47 million Mpico Gateway Mall Central Region netball league is expected to conclude before the end of August, with Young Eagles in pole position to claim their first championship title.

With their superior goal difference and two-point cushion, the Police-sponsored side will be confident of securing the silverware when they face Boma Sisters in what promises to be a championship-deciding showdown.
