Moyale Barracks moved four points clear of the relegation zone in the TNM Super League after beating bottom-placed Songwe Border United 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Soldiers found themselves in the relegation zone a week ago but have moved up to 10th in the league thanks to Nadrick Nyirenda’s lone goal in the first half.

It was an open game with both teams creating early chances. Mussa Aggrey for the visitors had his shot saved by Olyce Nkhwazi, while Clever Kalambo was denied by Bernard Mwangosi inside the first 20 minutes.
Pamene Mwakikunga sent his effort wide after the half-hour mark before Evance Lutta forced Nkhwazi into a great save as the visitors pressed hard. Kalambo’s long-range shot was then saved by Mwangosi, and just after Boniface Chuma replaced Mphatso Kasonga, Nadrick Nyirenda beat the offside trap to score after 38 minutes.
The visitors came out strong in the second half as they searched for an equalizer. Moyale introduced Chisomo Chawanda and Chifundo Makawa for Lovemore Jere and Lameck Mithi, while the visitors brought on Owen Mwangonde for Mwakikunga. Chuma headed wide from a Kalambo cross before forcing Mwangosi into a save at 74 minutes.

Laston Pingeni and Bryson Kanamba replaced Richard Cheyo and Evance Lutta. Kanamba had his shot saved by Nkhwazi, while Makawa sent his effort over the bar in the 90th minute as the hosts held on for maximum points.
Head coach for the hosts, Prichard Mwansa, thanked his players for their performance in a tough match and believes the team is back to its best.
“We can say that we are back to our good run of results because we also won last week, so back-to-back wins in the league is quite good. The league now needs wins to move up the table,” said Mwansa.
Assistant coach for the visitors, Blessings Sinyangwe, praised his players for their performance but declined to comment on relegation.
“We still have games to play in the league and we cannot say whether we will be relegated or survive this season. We are taking each game as it comes,” said Sinyangwe.
The win helped Moyale move up to 26 points from 6 wins, 8 draws and 7 losses, sitting in 10th position. Songwe Border remain bottom with just 5 points from one win, two draws and 20 losses in the league.
