MDF Lioness secured their first win in the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership with a commanding 2-0 away victory over MK Academy at Thengere Ground in Mzuzu on Sunday.
The military side found the net through player of the match Asimenye Simwaka and substitute Fazilah Chiyembekezo, finally breaking their winless streak after failing to secure victory in their opening three matches.

Assistant head coach Yohane Fulaye expressed satisfaction with the performance, believing it will boost team confidence moving forward.
“We are delighted to win this match. Today we came determined to secure victory, and we executed our plan perfectly. We utilized Asimenye Simwaka’s individual brilliance to create opportunities upfront, then committed more players to attack, which proved effective. This victory will certainly give us the confidence to pursue more wins,” said Fulaye.
MK Academy head coach Khumbo Sibale acknowledged his team’s disappointment at failing to earn at least a point, admitting his side was outclassed by their more experienced opponents.
“We believed we could perform better, especially against a team that was also struggling in the table standings. However, our opponents played exceptionally well and deserved their victory. Every match is a learning experience for us because our players are still young,” Sibale explained.
The victory lifted MDF Lioness to sixth place with five points from one win, two draws, and one defeat, while MK Academy remains eighth with just one point from one draw and three losses.
Ascent Academy Bounce Back with Crucial Victory

Meanwhile, Ascent Academy recovered from their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Silver Women last week by defeating Civil Service United Women 1-0 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Leticia Chinyamula scored the match-winner, earning her third player of the match award and drawing level with Silver Women’s Deborah Henry in the golden boot race. The victory handed Civil Service United their first defeat of the season.
Ascent head coach Thom Nkolongo praised the importance of securing an away victory against a rival team.
“This was an excellent match where we dominated the first half. Although they pressured us in the second half, we managed to defend our lead and claim maximum points,” Nkolongo said.
Civil Service United coach Collins Pofera accepted the defeat graciously, acknowledging his players were below their usual standards.
“It was a competitive match that we shouldn’t have lost given our performance, but my players weren’t at their best today. They didn’t play with their usual intensity, and we must accept this defeat. We’ll move forward and learn from our mistakes,” Pofera stated.
The result propelled Ascent to second place with nine points from three wins and one loss, while Civil Service United dropped to seventh with three points from three draws and one defeat.
Bullets Women demolish Moyale Sisters
In Blantyre, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets returned to winning form in spectacular fashion, crushing Moyale Sisters 5-0 at Mpira Stadium.
Leah Mussa opened the scoring in the first half before Mary Chavinda added a quick double. Substitutes Iouria Yiannakis and Vanessa Issa completed the rout for the People’s Team.
Bullets head coach Maggie Chombo-Sadick expressed her delight at seeing her team create numerous scoring opportunities.
“I’m thrilled that we won, particularly with such an impressive performance. Against MDF Lioness, we played well but failed to convert our chances. Today, we approached the match with determination and intensity, and I’m proud of the girls,” Chombo-Sadick said.
Moyale Sisters coach John Chiwala remained optimistic despite the heavy defeat, emphasizing his team’s learning process in the league.
“We started the match positively but lost concentration as the game progressed. We’re still a developing team, learning with each match. Soon we’ll start recording victories, and I’m confident we won’t face relegation this season,” Chiwala said.
Bullets remain fifth on the table with seven points from two wins, one draw, and one defeat, while Moyale Sisters stay ninth with one point from one draw and three losses.
The fourth week produced the most goals in a single matchweek, with 16 goals scored—two more than the previous week and four more than the combined total from the first two weeks.
Silver Women maintain their perfect record as the only unbeaten team with four wins from four matches, while MK Academy remains the only side yet to earn a point, having suffered four consecutive defeats.
