Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Malawi Flames attacking midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu to extend his contract by one year.
Mwaungulu joined the five-time CAF Champions League winners in August 2024 on a two-year deal alongside compatriot Lanjesi Nkhoma. However, both players had to wait to make their debuts for Mazembe after being loaned to Don Bosco FC while the club served a FIFA ban.

Upon their return earlier this year, the duo made an immediate impact. Mwaungulu established himself as a reliable squad member, contributing goals and assists that caught the attention of the club’s management.

With his original contract set to expire in 2026, the 25-year-old has now signed a one-year extension that will keep him at the club until May 2027, with an optional additional year that can only be triggered by Mazembe.
In an official statement, the club said: “TPM is pleased to announce the contract extension of Patrick Mwaungulu. The Malawian international attacking midfielder is now tied to the Black and White club for an additional season, until May 2027, with an optional year that can only be triggered by TPM.
“Having arrived in Lubumbashi with the ambition of taking his career to the next level, Patrick Mwaungulu has gradually established himself as an important member of the squad. His commitment, tactical discipline, and ability to make a difference in the final thirty meters have convinced the sporting management to continue this joint venture.”
The club added that the extension is part of their strategy to stabilize the squad and secure talent while building a competitive team for national and continental competitions. It also reflects the mutual trust between the club and player, built around a clear and ambitious sporting project.
“By renewing its confidence in Patrick Mwaungulu, TPM reaffirms its commitment to continuity, performance, and the development of players who are fully invested in defending the black and white colors,” the statement concluded.
