The mid-week air in Blantyre crackled with anticipation. At the venerable Kamuzu Stadium, the stage will be set for a showdown that promised more than just three points. It will be a battle for bragging rights, for reclaiming supremacy, and for the sheer joy of the beautiful game.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, the revered “People’s Team,” are preparing to host Moyale Barracks in a TNM Super League clash that had taken on added significance.
The Bullets, resplendent in their iconic red, found themselves second place on the league table, dislodged from their customary perch by fierce rivals Mighty Wanderers.

With 21 points from eight matches, their offensive prowess was undeniable – a league-high 22 goals scored, conceding only two, and boasting an impressive six clean sheets.
Their recent form spoke volumes: a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Karonga United had secured their spot in the Airtel Top 8 final, following a commanding 2-0 league win against Mighty Tigers.
Prior to that, a narrow 1-0 loss to Wanderers was a blip in an otherwise dominant run that included a 4-0 thrashing of Kamuzu Barracks and a 3-0 dispatching of Chitipa United. The hunger to return to the summit was palpable.
Across the pitch, Moyale Barracks, positioned sixth with 13 points from eight games, arrived with a point to prove. Their recent form had been a mixed bag: a surprising 2-0 defeat to Mzuzu City Hammers marked their first loss of the season, preceded by a goalless draw with Chitipa United.

They had also shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Mighty Tigers, secured a valuable 1-0 away win against MAFCO, and suffered an Airtel Top 8 exit at the hands of Silver Strikers with a 4-1 loss.
While historically a challenging opponent, particularly at Kamuzu Stadium where they hadn’t secured a win in over two decades, Moyale had found a knack for frustrating the Bullets in recent league encounters, holding them to draws in their last two meetings.
In the Bullets’ camp, head coach Peter Mponda exuded quiet confidence at his pre-match press conference. “The squad is in good shape,” he affirmed, “with only Crispin Mapemba as a long-term absentee.”
He reassured the media that Peter Banda, who had been withdrawn in the last match, was fit and ready to play. Mponda emphasized the team’s internal focus: “We are not stressing about the log table. Our focus is on our performance and getting the results we need.”
He acknowledged Moyale’s strength, despite their recent results, and underlined his team’s determination to dominate and secure a home victory.
Referee Zebron Lengani, flanked by assistant referees Wales Chisi and Siyame Chitambo, and fourth official Honest Maulana, would oversee the proceedings, with Paul Mhango serving as the match assessor.
The stage is set for a classic Super League encounter. The Bullets, fueled by their desire to reclaim their rightful place at the top, are likely to unleash their potent attack and resolute defense.
Moyale, known for their defensive discipline and ability to stifle opponents, would undoubtedly aim to frustrate the home side and perhaps even spring a surprise. While the odds favored the Bullets given their formidable home record and current form, the unpredictable nature of Malawian football meant nothing is guaranteed.
