Marco Chiwaya’s uncertain future at Dedza Dynamos

A boy blessed with silky touches and a flair that  makes football entertaining to spectators, Marko Chiwaya dribbles with ease and scores effortlessly. He is not a natural striker, yet he finds goals. For two seasons at Goshen City Dedza Dynamos, Chiwaya carved his name into the TNM Super League and left an impression that will linger with those who have watched him play.

He arrived in Dedza from the north after attending trials and quickly caught the eye of the technical panel. The club was convinced. He was taken in. Yet, despite becoming an important figure on the pitch, Chiwaya never signed a formal contract with the club.

Instead, his stay was anchored in trust and commitment from the team’s patron, Mr Lewis Yumbe Msukwa.

“I had an understanding with the patron because sometimes he was helping the team with his own resources. He asked me to stay for two years and assured me that he would take care of me. I cannot complain. He lived up to his word, but the agreed two years are now over,” Chiwaya shared.

At the time of writing, Chiwaya is back home in Nkhata Bay District on holiday, reflecting on his next move.

“I left at the end of the season and went home. I am yet to receive a call from the team to discuss a contract,” he said.

Operating behind the strikers, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder has scored nine Super League goals across his two seasons at Dedza Dynamos, while providing numerous assists that underlined his value beyond the scoresheet.

In his first season in 2024, he scored four goals and provided six assists before an injury interrupted his rhythm and ruled him out of several matches. In the 2025 campaign, he found the net five times in 24 league appearances while continuing to create chances for others.

When Chiwaya joined Dedza Dynamos, the club was under Premier Bet sponsorship. As time passed, that partnership collapsed, changing the club’s direction.

Goshen City, owned by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Enlightened Christian Gathering, came on board in the 2025 season. With new ownership came structural and operational changes at the club.

That shift raises questions about Chiwaya’s future. With no running contract, will the new management retain him or allow him to seek opportunities elsewhere?

During his time at Dedza, interest was never in short supply. Several clubs made inquiries through assistant coach Luke Bruno Milanzi. Among them were FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Wanderers, Kamuzu Barracks, Blue Eagles and Ekhaya FC, according to the player.

For now, however, there are no active pursuits, leaving Chiwaya free to enter discussions with any interested side.

His manager, James Da Kas Kasambala of JJ Sports Agency, confirmed the player’s availability.

“He is not contracted at Dedza Dynamos. If teams come in for his signature, we will assess the options together and respect his choice on where he wishes to go next,” Kasambala said.

Chiwaya joined Dedza Dynamos from Nkhata Bay-based side Kadona Stars, where he spent three seasons competing in the Northern Region Football Association SIMSO Premier League.
