The first game ended in a barren stalemate but Mayele Malango of Monterey Bay FC in the United States of America, scored a lone goal to hand the Flames a victory in their second match.
It was not just a goal, it was a pen changing history while creating another. For Malango, it was his first international goal coming in his fourth appearance for the team and for Flames, it was a breaker of a 16-year record that Malawi has never won against Lesotho since its 1-0 triumph recorded back in 2009.
The Flames under the tutelage of head coach Kalisto Pasuwa, are on a team building mission that seeks to get a ticket to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament with its qualification matches poised to start next year 2026.
The team has failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup.
