Thumbs Up Southern Region Football League side, Liberty FC, believes that the hiring of former Flames midfielder Chimango Kayira will strengthen their push to earn promotion to the Super League in the coming years.
On Friday, the club confirmed the appointment of Kayira, who was previously with FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Youth, as head coach. He replaces Henry Solomon, who was dismissed a few weeks ago.
Team manager Lovemore Nthala confirmed that Kayira officially began his role on Friday, 01 August 2025, and said the technical panel is ready to give him full support to help take the team to greater heights.

“This shows that the executive truly wants the team to grow and play in the Super League in the near future. We have high hopes in Chimango Kayira, and as the technical panel, we will give him all the support he needs,” said Nthala.
On his part, Kayira expressed gratitude to the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets executive for the opportunity he had with the club and described his move to Liberty as an important step in his coaching journey.
“This opportunity does not come to every former player. I’m thankful for the trust FCB Nyasa Big Bullets placed in me. I also thank them for allowing me to pursue new challenges,” Kayira wrote on his Facebook page.
He further thanked Liberty FC for believing in him, despite his experience being rooted in the Under-19 League while the team competes in a highly competitive regional league.
Liberty currently sits 13th on the log table with 12 points from 11 games. Kayira’s first test as head coach comes on Sunday when his side takes on unbeaten Mighty Wanderers Reserve at Kamuzu Stadium from 11:00 AM.
