Blantyre giants Kukoma Ntopwa Queens and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women are set to clash in the opening match of the inaugural 2025–26 National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership on Saturday at Mpira Stadium.
The match marks the official launch of the country’s first-ever national women’s league, and both teams are geared up to make a strong statement.
Kukoma Ntopwa head coach Isaac Jomo Osman says the league has arrived at the perfect time as the team prepares for the 2025 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.

“We are ready for the league. As champions of the national women’s tournament, this competition will serve as good preparation for the COSAFA games,” Osman said.
He anticipates a tough match on Saturday, noting that Bullets will be out for revenge after Ntopwa defeated them four months ago.
“They will come hard on us. We have always given each other tough matches, but we are ready,” he added.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women coach Maggie Chombo Sadick is also confident heading into the opener.
“We have prepared well, and the girls have trained with great focus. They know this is a new game and a new tournament,” she said.
Chombo emphasized the importance of consistency in a league format.
“This is a points-based competition, unlike the knockout format of previous tournaments. We want to collect points from every match to secure a good position on the table,” she explained.
Meanwhile, NBM and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) have unveiled “Pangolin,” a theme song by musician Jetu, to promote the league. The song was launched during a ceremony at NBM’s head office in Blantyre.

NBM Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa said the collaboration aims to add entertainment to women’s football and praised the song’s remastered version for aligning with the league’s theme.
“Women are as unique and resilient as pangolins,” said Hiwa, confirming that Jetu will perform the song at the launch event.
FAM Competitions Director Gomezgani Zakazaka expressed excitement ahead of kickoff.
“We are expecting an exciting competition that will drive the development of women’s football in the country and help uncover new talent for the Scorchers,” said Zakazaka.
The National Bank of Malawi has committed K280 million to the tournament, which will run from 26 July 2025 to February 2026.
