Eliya Kananji’s tenure as head coach of Creck Sporting Club has hit a rocky start, as his side suffered a second consecutive defeat, this time a 2-0 loss to struggling Civil Service United at Civo Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Kananji, who took charge hoping for a bounce-back win after losing his debut game in Blantyre, openly criticized his players for their “lack of seriousness” and playing “without purpose.”

The match remained goalless for the first 45 minutes, with Kananji undoubtedly eager to secure his maiden victory at the helm of Creck Sporting.
However, “the Servants” emerged from the halftime break with renewed vigor, delivering a blistering second-half performance. Substitute Dustan Banda proved to be the hero for Civil Service United, netting clinical strikes in the 50th and 70th minutes to secure a well-deserved victory.

A visibly frustrated Kananji attributed the loss to his players’ attitude. “Another defeat in a game that we played very well. We started the game very well in the first half but chibwana chathu chatipweteketsa (our lack of seriousness hurt us),” he lamented.
He expressed particular dismay at the second-half collapse. “We were down in the second half, we gave away two goals, there was no goal which we should have to concede.
“We didn’t attack with intention, opanda cholinga (without purpose). Every player was down. We gave them three points, very painful. Our last touch was not convincing, amangopita kutsogolo just to present but panalibe chanzeru (they just went forward just to present but there was no ambition).
“It’s not looking good on the log table, I don’t know what happened, I don’t know what I can say,” he concluded, clearly at a loss for words to explain his team’s performance.
The victory was crucial for Civil Service United, propelling them to 13th place in the TNM Super League standings with 9 points from two wins, three draws, and four defeats.
Conversely, Creck Sporting Club remains in 11th position with 11 points, having recorded three wins, two draws, and five defeats under their belt. The pressure is now firmly on Kananji to turn his team’s fortunes around in the upcoming fixtures.
