The Junior Flames have yet again reached the COSAFA U-20 finals after a solid 22 years, following a 2-1 victory over Zambia in the semifinals at the competition played as part of the Region 5 Games in Windhoek, Namibia.
In the 2002 final, the team lost to Zambia 4-0, denying them a chance to get their hands on the trophy—the only time they got that close.
Mwisho Mhango was first to score just two minutes into the game, but Zambia equalised just five minutes shy of the first half.

Mhango scored the winning goal in the second half through a direct free kick to seal the deal and book a date in the finals against South Africa.

Prior to the game, the team’s coach, Milias Pofera Jegwe, promised a good show and said the team would look to change the narrative that they have been underdogs to Zambia. It has happened, and the team will now look to win the title. The team won the tournament in 2008, but it was not under COSAFA then.
It has been a good run at the current tournament, having won three games and drawn once, managing to score seven goals while conceding three—a record they can bank on going into the second half.
Going into the final, Jegwe says the team will celebrate today’s win and get back to the drawing board to prepare for the final against Amajita who defeated Angola 2-0 to book their final slot.
