Karonga United edged Moyale Barracks 1-0 at Rumphi Stadium on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of an early strike from Rajab Juma, securing all three points in a tightly contested TNM Super League encounter.
The visitors got off to a dream start, breaking the deadlock just 35 seconds after kickoff. Alfred Chisinga delivered a precise assist to Juma, who calmly slotted the ball past Moyale goalkeeper MacDonald Nkhwazi.

Despite trailing, Moyale responded with purpose, pushing forward from the left flank and creating several chances. Charles Nkhoma missed a clear opportunity in the 29th minute, failing to convert a free header after a well-taken throw-in, while Allen Chihana also went close minutes later.
Karonga maintained their defensive discipline, absorbing pressure and breaking on the counter through the likes of Patrick Phiri and Chisinga. In the 13th minute, Phiri tested Nkhwazi with a low shot, but it lacked the power to trouble the keeper.
The hosts made their first substitution shortly after halftime, bringing on Jimmy Viyuyi for Lameck Mithi in the 48th minute to inject fresh energy into the attack. However, Moyale’s efforts continued to be thwarted by a resolute Karonga backline and the safe hands of goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe.
Karonga also made key changes, with Benjamin Mapunda replacing Saulosi Moyo on 61 minutes, and Dan Kumwenda coming on for Nadrick Nyirenda in the 72nd. Moyale made a final push in the closing stages, with Nkhoma’s 87th-minute effort forcing a fine save that led to a corner, but they could not find the equalizer.
The win sees Karonga United pick up a valuable three points, while Moyale Barracks continue a disappointing run.
