Ekhaya FC produced a statement performance at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a commanding 3-0 victory over Moyale Barracks in a match that saw James Lumbe named Man of the Match for his inspired display.
The match kicked off in front of a modest crowd, and it didn’t take long for both teams to show attacking intent. Teaser Nyirenda had an early sighter for Moyale, but his effort veered wide. Ekhaya responded with intent as Alick Lungu delivered a quality ball to Christopher Gototo, who fluffed his chance, before Innocent Botoman cleared a dangerous move on the other end.
Ekhaya’s attacking rhythm was fluid and eventually paid off in the 15th minute. After a brilliant exchange involving Lovemore Mbeta and Christopher Gototo, James Lumbe finished off the move with a composed strike from close range to give the hosts a deserved lead.

The goal sparked life into the match, with both teams showcasing contrasting styles—Ekhaya favoring short passing while Moyale looked to exploit long balls. Walusungu Mdoka tried to get Moyale going with a teasing cross, but Amos Sande collected comfortably. As the first half wore on, Ekhaya’s midfield trio, led by the lively Lumbe and supported by Lungu, continued to dictate proceedings, despite Moyale’s growing possession.
Chances came and went for both sides, with Safton Chintokoma and James Hadji probing for Moyale but finding no breakthrough. The teams went into the break with Ekhaya holding a 1-0 lead, but the match still finely poised.
The second half resumed with immediate changes from both benches. Clever Chikwata and Vincent Salawira came on for Ekhaya while Moyale made their own adjustments shortly after. Moyale began on the front foot, winning set pieces and testing the Ekhaya defense, but Robert Mphenzi fired over from a promising corner in one of their better openings.
Ekhaya continued to look threatening on the break, and in the 76th minute, their patience was rewarded. Substitute Matamando Mwatchipisa finished a flowing team move with a stunning left-footed strike into the bottom corner after great work from Safton Chintokoma and Chikwata in the build-up. The goal sent the home crowd into raptures and firmly placed the game beyond Moyale’s reach.
Alick Lungu added gloss to the scoreline with a thunderous strike deep into stoppage time to make it 3-0, a goal worthy of any highlight reel and a fitting end to Ekhaya’s dominant display.
Moyale had their moments but were ultimately undone by Ekhaya’s clinical finishing and defensive resilience. The result reflects Ekhaya’s growing maturity in the league, and with players like James Lumbe pulling the strings, they will be a tough side to contain.
