The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has disbursed MK1 billion to the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, to support their assignments for the current year, Times Sports reports.
This significant financial injection comes as the Flames face scrutiny over recent performances, including losing three of their last four matches and finishing at the bottom of Group B in the recent COSAFA Cup in South Africa.

Henry Kamata, Chief Executive Officer of the Malawi National Council of Sports, confirmed the disbursement and emphasized the expectation for improved results.
“The funds have been disbursed into the Football Association of Malawi account for the Flames to use during their assignments. However, Malawians need results,” he stated.
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has also confirmed receipt of the funds.
The Flames were recently eliminated from the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) by South Africa following a 2-1 aggregate defeat and also made an early exit from the COSAFA Cup.
Malawi is set to return to action in September for crucial World Cup Qualifiers. They will face Namibia away on September 3rd, before hosting Liberia on September 9th. The Flames, currently second from bottom with six points in their six-member group, will conclude their qualifiers in October, playing Equatorial Guinea at home before taking on group anchors São Tomé and Príncipe.
