Malawi’s National Women’s Football Team, the Scorchers, are set to continue their preparations for the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers with two international friendly matches against Lesotho.

The games will be held at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre on Friday, August 29, and Sunday, August 31, 2025.

These matches will be the seventh and eighth friendlies for the Scorchers this year, a significant milestone for a team that has previously gone years without international fixtures. This change is part of the Football Association of Malawi’s (FAM) new transformational agenda.

Scorchers’ Head Coach Lovemore Fazili praised FAM’s leadership, saying these games are a crucial part of their WAFCON preparation.

“These are not just friendly matches, they are preparation for our WAFCON qualifiers in October, so they are coming at the right time,” Fazili said. “We have learnt a lot from the six friendly matches we have played so far, and the remaining issues will be polished up through these games.”

The Scorchers have had a challenging but valuable run of friendlies this year, with one win against Zambia and losses to top-tier teams like Zambia, South Africa, Morocco, and Ghana. The matches against Lesotho will provide another important opportunity for Fazili to assess his squad before the qualifiers against Angola in October.

Due to the games being scheduled outside of the FIFA window, the Scorchers will be without their foreign-based players for these two matches.
