FAM President calls for unity as Wanderers, Silver enter continental competitions

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has called upon all Malawians to rally behind the country’s representatives in the upcoming CAF continental competitions.

Speaking ahead of the competitions, Haiya expressed confidence in both Silver Strikers FC and Mighty Wanderers as they prepare to carry the national flag on the continental stage.

Silver Strikers FC will face ELGECO Plus in the CAF Champions League, while Mighty Wanderers have been drawn against Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Confederations Cup.

“Our representatives Silver Strikers FC faces ELGECO Plus in the CAF Champions League while Mighty Wanderers will take on Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Confederations Cup. I would like to wish the two clubs all the best in their campaigns and call upon all Malawians to rally behind our flag carriers,” Haiya stated.

The FAM President emphasized the importance of national unity in supporting the teams, highlighting the broader benefits these competitions will bring to Malawian football.

“Let us unite in support for our teams as they represent Malawi on the continental stage. The exposure and experience they will tap in these competitions will be invaluable in the development of our football. Together, we stand stronger, and together, we are Transforming the Game,” he added.

Silver Strikers left the country on Thursday afternoon for the trip to Mauritius while Mighty Wanderers will start with a home match on Sunday.

Both clubs will be looking to make their mark in their respective competitions, with the matches providing crucial exposure for Malawian football on the continental stage. The experience gained from these high-level competitions is expected to contribute significantly to the overall development of football in the country.

The continental campaigns represent an important opportunity for Malawi to showcase its football talent and potentially make history in African club competitions.
