Goalkeeper Elias Missi has agreed a deal with Blue Eagles, becoming the new goalminder for the club following a tumultuous period at Ekhaya Football Club.

Missi’s future at Ekhaya became uncertain after a controversial incident during their 1-0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. The goalkeeper was caught grabbing opponent Babatunde by the neck during the match—a moment of misconduct that would prove costly for both player and club.

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) handed down swift punishment, banning Missi for three games and imposing a hefty MK3 million fine on Ekhaya Football Club.

Ekhaya were furious with their goalkeeper’s conduct and took immediate action. The club suspended Missi indefinitely and stopped paying his salary, claiming they were using his wages to cover the MK3 million SULOM fine.

The former Bullets Reserve goalkeeper hasn’t featured for Ekhaya since their 3-1 defeat to Silver Strikers and has been absent from all training sessions and matches. His situation worsened when the club withheld his August salary entirely.

Ekhaya’s completion of Joshua Waka’s signing from Blue Eagles last month sent a clear message about Missi’s future at the club. With a new goalkeeper secured, Missi’s position became untenable.

Recognizing the writing on the wall, Missi formally requested a clearance from Ekhaya to continue his career elsewhere. The club granted his request, officially ending a troubled chapter.

Blue Eagles have moved quickly to secure Missi’s services, reaching an agreement with the goalkeeper on a four-month contract that will keep him at the club until the end of 2025 season.

The signing represents a fresh start for Missi, who will be hoping to rebuild his reputation and focus purely on football after the controversies at Ekhaya.

Despite the recent troubles, Missi’s statistics at Ekhaya demonstrate his goalkeeping ability. During his time with the club, he played 14 Super League matches, keeping 7 clean sheets and conceding just 9 goals—impressive numbers that likely caught Blue Eagles’ attention.

The goalkeeper originally joined Ekhaya from Bangwe All Stars and now begins the next chapter of his career with Blue Eagles, where he’ll be expected to put the controversies behind him and establish himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
