Civil Service United are looking to channel the intensity of their recent Airtel Top 8 Cup semifinal performance as they face Creck Sporting Club on Wednesday at Civo Stadium. The crucial TNM Super League match sees the Servants fighting to climb out of the relegation zone.
Despite a 2-1 defeat to city rivals Silver Strikers in the cup, Assistant Coach Wilson Chidati expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to bounce back. “We played good football over the weekend and the boys showed real character. We’ve taken that energy into our preparations, and we are ready to go again,” said Chidati, emphasizing that Civil were “pound to pound” with the TNM Super League defending champions in the cup tie.
Currently sitting 15th on the log, second from bottom, Civil Service United are enduring one of their most challenging seasons. They’ve only managed a mere 6 points from 8 games, scoring just 4 goals while conceding 7, and have already suffered four defeats. A critical need for greater consistency, particularly in converting chances, has been a recurring theme.

Their last league outing was a goalless draw at home against MAFCO FC on June 14, 2025. This follows a difficult start to the season, including 1-0 losses to Karonga United and Ekhaya. While they enjoyed a brief three-game unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Blue Eagles and 1-1 draws against Moyale Barracks and Chitipa United, they then lost 1-0 to Dedza Dynamos and Silver Strikers before the draw with MAFCO.
A significant concern for Civil Service United is their inability to score, having failed to find the net in five of their eight league matches. Of their four goals this season, only striker Precious Chipungu has contributed, scoring a brace against Blue Eagles, with the remaining goals coming from a defender and a midfielder.
However, the team will benefit from playing at Civo Stadium, their familiar home ground, and the passionate backing of their supporters. Their recent league clean sheet against MAFCO also suggests a potential for defensive solidity when organized. Furthermore, the memory of their 3-1 defeat to Creck Sporting in October 2024 will undoubtedly fuel a strong desire for revenge in front of their home crowd.
Chipungu’s return and call for fan support
In a boost for the struggling side, Assistant Coach Chidati confirmed the return of key forward Precious Chipungu from injury. Chipungu, who leads the club’s scoring chart with two goals, was sidelined after sustaining an injury against MAFCO FC. While available for selection, the coaching staff will decide whether he starts.
Chidati also expressed confidence in addressing the team’s scoring struggles, stating, “We’ve been working specifically with the strikers, and I’m confident we’ll be more clinical in front of goal tomorrow.”
Closing his remarks, Chidati urged Civil fans to come out in large numbers to support the team in this crucial fixture: “We need the fans behind us. We’re sitting 15th on the log, and this game is a big chance for us to collect important points and climb up.”
