Luke Chima was in top form for Goshen City Dedza Dynamos after scoring a hat-trick in 28 minutes to inspire the team to a comfortable 3-0 win over relegated Songwe Border United in a match played at Karonga Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The team entered the match in the relegation zone, and a win was essential for them to move out of the danger zone as the survival battle heats up among four teams in the league.

Chima opened the scoring in the second minute after meeting a ball from Chifuniro Mpinganjira, who was later fouled in the box in the 18th minute, allowing Chima to convert from the spot. The forward completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later after being assisted by Bright Masebo.
The hosts came close through Owen Mwangonde and Festus Chikwegza, who squandered their chances, before Abraham Mwandenga replaced Bernard Mwangosi in goal at 43 minutes for Songwe.
Laston Pingeni replaced Wilson Lungwa at halftime in Songwe’s second change, then Frank Chikufenji and Tayani Phiri were introduced for Masebo and George Phiri. The hosts dominated the game but failed to hit the target.
Temitope Ebenezer replaced Hassan Nyembe for the hosts, while Chikondi Mbeta, Frank Sanudi and Blessings Phiri all replaced Christopher Phiri, Aggrey Msowoya and Mpinganjira for Dedza, who went on to secure maximum points.
Head coach for Goshen City Dedza Dynamos, Alex Ngwira, was excited with the result, saying it has given them breathing space, despite having more work to do to survive in the league.
“We really needed this win as you know we are fighting for survival, so this win has given us breathing space, though the work is still on. It has given us confidence that we can do better in the games ahead of us,” said Ngwira.
On his part, technical director for Songwe Border United, Gift Chilongo, said his boys started badly in the game, hence conceding early goals.
“We were not good in the first half, but after making some changes we settled well and could have even scored some goals, but our frontline lacked composure, which cost us in the game,” said Chilongo.
The win took Dedza up to 12th in the standings with 27 points from 7 wins, 6 draws and 12 defeats, while already-relegated Songwe Border United have 6 points from one win, three draws and 22 defeats in the league.
