Chilobwe United have secured promotion to the NBS National Division League following a commanding 4 0 victory over Chilomoni FC at Moneymen Ground in Blantyre on Thursday December 18.

Founded only in 2024, Chilobwe continue to write a remarkable rise through the football ranks. This was their first season in the Southern Region Premier Division after winning the 2024 Southern Region Division One League in their maiden participation.

The victory confirmed Chilobwe’s place among the promotion spots as they moved to 56 points from 28 matches, level with table leaders Ekhaya Reserve. However, with reserve sides not eligible for promotion, Chilobwe are guaranteed a place in the National Division League regardless of results in the remaining fixtures.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve are third with 52 points while Mighty Wanderers Reserve sit fourth on 51 points, but both sides are also ineligible for promotion. Fifth placed Thondwe FC, who have 45 points from 27 games, cannot mathematically catch Chilobwe even if they win their remaining matches.

Chilobwe United General Secretary Benham Chinombo described the achievement as the fulfilment of a carefully planned journey.

“We only planned to qualify in our first season in the premier division and I am happy for everyone at the team that this dream has come true,” said Chinombo.

He added that promotion to the National Division League is not the end of the road, revealing that the club is targeting qualification to the elite TNM Super League in its first season at national level.

“We started in Division One and earned promotion in our first year. We repeated the same by qualifying from the premier division to the National Division League. Our own story encourages us and motivates us to do even better. We will fight for TNM Super League promotion because we believe it is possible. Be ready for us in the elite league in the 2027 28 season,” Chinombo boldly stated.

Beyond results on the pitch, Chilobwe United have shown strong organisational ambition. The club runs corporate social responsibility programmes within Chilobwe community, supporting not only players but the wider society. All players are on formal contracts and receive their salaries through bank accounts, a rarity at lower league level.

The club also provides vocational skills training to players in recognition of football being a short career. In terms of branding and media, Chilobwe stand out as one of the few lower league sides with an official website and a fully equipped media team that documents team news and match highlights.

Chinombo further disclosed that several developments aimed at strengthening the team ahead of National Division League participation are in the pipeline and will be communicated to the public in due course.

With promotion secured and a clear elite league ambition already declared, Chilobwe United’s rapid rise appears far from over.
