The CECAFA Beach Soccer National Championship, slated to be held in Mombasa, Kenya, has been postponed once again, the Council of Eastern and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) has announced. This latest delay, attributed to security concerns, means that teams like Malawi and Seychelles, who were already en route to Mombasa, will now have to return home.

Malawi Head Coach Willy Kumilambe expressed his disappointment, describing the postponement as a setback for their preparations for the upcoming COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship later this year.

The tournament has faced multiple delays. Initially scheduled for June 6-11, it was first moved to July 7-12, and then rescheduled again to begin on Wednesday, July 16. However, just days before the latest kickoff, CECAFA announced this most recent delay due to an “unforeseen situation.”

The CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship is expected to feature seven teams: regional participants Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Zanzibar, and Tanzania, along with guest nations Seychelles and Malawi. Hosts Kenya were drawn in Group A alongside Malawi, Burundi, and Zanzibar and were initially set to play Seychelles today, July 16, at Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach in Mombasa.
