Zimbabwean giants Caps United have initiated discussions with Malawian champions Silver Strikers regarding a potential transfer for versatile midfielder Uchizi Vunga, Daily Times Sports reports.

The move comes as part of an ambitious rebuilding project by the Harare-based club, who have already secured 11 new signings ahead of the 2026 season.

Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba confirmed the interest, revealing that talks began three weeks ago. “There was interest from Caps but nothing concrete has been agreed at the moment,” Chimimba told Daily Times Sports.

However, sources close to the deal suggest Caps United may have cooled their pursuit after completing the signing of former Moyale Barracks midfielder Lloyd Njaliwa, who is expected to join his new teammates next week. Njaliwa had been playing in Mozambique before the move.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been instrumental in Silver Strikers’ recent success, establishing himself as one of the Central Bankers’ most important players over the past two seasons.

Vunga, who joined Silver from Mzuzu Warriors four years ago, played a pivotal role in the club’s 2024 league triumph, earning recognition as the best midfielder of the season. His contribution continued into 2025, helping Silver Strikers claim the FdH Bank Cup.

His performances have also caught attention on the continental stage, with impressive displays in the CAF Champions League against Tanzanian powerhouse Yanga Sports Club showcasing his quality against elite opposition.

Caps United’s aggressive recruitment campaign signals their determination to return to the summit of Zimbabwean football. Among their notable acquisitions is former Silver Strikers forward Chawanangwa Kaonga, who returns from a stint with Zambian side Zanaco United, alongside Njaliwa.

As it stands, Vunga’s future remains uncertain, with both clubs yet to reach a formal agreement on the transfer.
