FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women have moved up to third position in the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership after beating MK Academy 2-0 at the Mzuzu Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The People’s team had won just one of their four away games in the league and needed to score first. Vanessa Issa struck in the 15th minute before Linda Nyangu added a second in the 72nd minute to secure the win.

The People’s team also had moments where Monalisa Mhango was denied by the post in the first half. Elikina Nyasulu had one-on-one chances saved to keep the hosts alive, while Maria Nkhoma saw her shot hit the post when the goalkeeper was already beaten in the first half.
Assistant coach for Bullets Women, Charles Lubani, was happy with the team’s performance and expects more wins in the second round.

“The second round will not be easy as every team has come to do better. You have seen Silver Ladies being beaten by MDF Lioness, which shows how hard it will be, but we want to fight for a top two finish because Bullets is also a big brand which needs to be dominating as well,” said Lubani.
Meanwhile, MK Academy head coach Khumbo Sibale said his team is focusing on player development rather than results.
“We are using youngsters who have just been promoted from the Under-16s, so for us we have played well and we do not have pressure to get results, but we want to develop these players to be used by the nation in the future,” said Sibale.
The win takes Bullets Women from fifth to third in the standings with 18 points from five wins, three draws and three defeats, while MK Academy remain second from bottom with just four draws and seven defeats in the league.
