The SRFA ThumbsUp Premier Division served another thrilling matchday on Saturday, as top-of-the-table clashes, surging mid-table challengers, and basement struggles delivered goals, drama, and major implications in the race for promotion.
League leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve were held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Zingwangwa United in a tense top-of-the-table showdown. Sherif Maida put Zingwangwa ahead in the first half but Bullets Reserve pulled level in the second half through Movic Banda.
Speaking after the game, Dida Zingwangwa, Head coach for Zingwangwa United said his boys lost concentration that allowed Bullets to find an equalizer.

“It was just a miscommunication between the defenders, they didn’t cover themselves up and we conceded a goal. We will go back and work with the boys, tell them on what we failed,” He said.
On his part, Heston Munthali said, “We knew that Zingwangwa would come hard on us because they are a very good team. We are number one and they occupy the second place.
“In the first half we didn’t play our usual game but after changes in the second half, it’s when we saw our game. However we were making decisions on hurry instead of being calm. We dominated at the end of the second half and we got a goal. I have to praise the players for the job well done. Its a game, we can win, lose and draw and forge ahead.”
The result sees Bullets Reserve maintain top spot with 13 points from six matches, but their two-point cushion is under threat, as Zingwangwa and third-placed Immigration FC (both on 11 points) continue to breathe down their neck.
In another game, Chilobwe United made a bold statement in the promotion race with a commanding 4-0 demolition of FOMO Reserve in Mulanje.
Former Umodzi and Nsanje United forward Mada Hadji and Emmanuel Munthali both bagged braces in a performance that not only earned three points but also significantly boosted their goal difference.
Now fourth with 9 points and a +7 goal difference, Chilobwe leapfrogged Ekhaya Reserve, Chilomoni FC, and Wanderers Reserve — all locked on 9 points — thanks to their ruthless attacking display.
In what could be described as a pivotal away win, Nyambadwe United edged Liberty FC 1-0 courtesy of a well-taken strike from Eric Sadia. The result lifts Nyambadwe to 9th on 7 points with a game in hand and delivers a blow to Liberty’s top-five ambitions.

Meanwhile, Chilomoni FC missed a chance to go second after being held 1-1 by The Boyz SFC. Joseph Solomon struck for the hosts, but a crucial equalizer from Khedira Samuel made sure that Chilomoni walked away with a point and leaves them in sixth place on goal difference.
With just four points separating first from eighth, the SRFA ThumbsUp Premier Division is wide open. Bullets Reserve remain unbeaten, but their inability to pull away suggests a tense campaign ahead. Chilobwe’s form makes them one of the teams to watch, while Ekhaya Reserve and Wanderers Reserve have games in hand that could reshape the standings.
At the bottom, FOMO Reserve’s woes deepened with their fifth loss in six games, leaving them rooted to the foot of the table with a -9 goal difference.
Nsanje United, Ntopwa FC, and Tigers Reserve are also embroiled in the early relegation scrap.
