FCB Nyasa Big Bullets head coach Peter Mponda faced a hostile reception from his team’s supporters following their goalless draw against Mighty Tigers on Saturday, with fans whistling, hurling abusive words, and expressing their frustration toward their former captain.
Mponda has been subjected to intense criticism, with many fans believing the team is underperforming despite being in the title race before the Tigers match. Supporters view Mponda as the root cause of the team’s problems.

The fans’ dissatisfaction nearly boiled over into a physical confrontation as they questioned his tactics, particularly why Sean Mcbrams was only introduced in the 64th minute. Some supporters chanted the name of Fischer Kondowe, who was suspended by the club due to undisclosed matters, in an apparent attempt to mock Mponda and call for the assistant coach’s return.
Mponda Defends His Position

In response to the criticism, Mponda insisted the squad needs reinforcement for next season.
“There are others who think that Bullets should win everything, but they fail to ask themselves if the players are capable of doing it. There is a need to have new players or refining the team,” said Mponda.
However, he defended his players’ performance this season, highlighting their competition for the championship and their Airtel Top 8 trophy.
“It has been a season of ups and downs, very frustrating, but the boys that I have have tried and we chased for the title. But like I said, we need to refresh and beef up the squad,” he added.
Despite missing the league title for the second season running, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have shown remarkable statistical improvement from last season, despite what Mponda described as a “frustrating season” in his post-match interview with Wa Mpira.
The People’s Team finished third last season for the first time since 2013, losing the league by a 12-point gap behind winners Silver Strikers. The Bankers accumulated 67 points while Bullets managed 55. Bullets scored 42 goals, conceded 20, recorded 14 wins, 13 draws, and 3 losses.
This season, however, Bullets collected 63 points—8 points better than last season. They scored 56 goals, conceded 20, and recorded 20 wins, 3 draws, and 6 losses, demonstrating clear progress in terms of results and goal output despite the pressure on Mponda’s position.
