FCB Nyasa Big Bullets came from behind to beat Silver Strikers 2-1 in a dramatic encounter at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon, maintaining their four-point lead at the top of the TNM Super League.

The Central Bankers’ new signing Emmanuel Allan gave Silver Strikers the lead in the 66th minute, silencing the home crowd. However, Bullets responded quickly through Ephraim Kondowe, who equalized in the 71st minute.

The victory marked Bullets’ third win over Silver Strikers this season across all competitions. The People’s Team have beaten the Bankers twice in the elite league and once in the Airtel Top 8 Cup final.

Their first league meeting saw Bullets edge Silver 1-0 at Silver Stadium during the elite league launch. In the FDH Bank Cup, Bullets were even more emphatic, dispatching The Boys 3-0 to set up a quarterfinal clash with Kamuzu Barracks.

Despite Sunday’s defeat, Silver Strikers have reason for optimism after progressing to the next round of the CAF Champions League. They advanced on away goals after a 1-1 aggregate draw with Egenco Plus. The second leg at Bingu National Stadium ended 0-0, sending Silver through to face Young Africans of Tanzania.

Bullets, meanwhile, are also flying in cup competitions. They thrashed rivals Blue Eagles 3-0 at Nankhaka Stadium to book their spot in the FDH Bank Cup semifinals, where they will face the winner of the tie between Civo Sporting Club and Mighty Wanderers.

Last week, Bullets comfortably beat Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos 3-0 to open up their current four-point gap over second-placed Mighty Wanderers.

Coaches’ Reactions

Bullets coach Peter Mponda expressed satisfaction with both the result and performance.

“I am happy with the results and performance. Previously I was at Silver and I know how the team operates and how they think. Silver and Wanderers are still favorites for the league alongside us,” Mponda said.

Silver Strikers head coach Peter Mgangira was less pleased, questioning the officiating and suggesting the scoreline didn’t reflect the balance of play.

“The result did not reflect the true reality of the game and the officiating panel did not do their job properly. Everything can happen in football, especially in terms of league contenders,” Mgangira said.

Bullets sit comfortably at the top of the table with 46 points from 19 matches, while Silver Strikers occupy third place with 36 points from 18 games. Mighty Wanderers are second on 42 points from 18 matches.

The title race continues to heat up as Bullets look to maintain their advantage while Wanderers and Silver chase them down in the remaining fixtures.
