FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have confirmed they have mutually parted ways with defender Chikumbutso Henderson, just six months after he joined the team.
Bullets signed the former Ngwanje Football Club defender on January 13 this year from Mzuzu City Hammers for an undisclosed fee. Henderson, who recently turned 30, had signed a two-year contract with the team and was Head Coach Peter Mponda’s first signing when he joined from Silver Strikers.
However, Wa Mpira reported last month that Mponda was not impressed with the player’s performances. Henderson leaves the team without making any competitive appearances, having only featured in the Sapitwa4 Bonanza during pre-season and the charity match against Silver Strikers during the FCB30 Anniversary celebrations in Lilongwe.

The statement released by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets reads: “FCB Nyasa Big Bullets can confirm that defender Chikumbutso Henderson has left the club by mutual agreement. We thank Henderson for his professionalism and commitment during his time with us and wish him success in the next chapter of his career.”
The departure represents a financial loss for Bullets on their first signing of the season, with the club offering no explanation for the decision.
After losing key defenders before the start of the season, Bullets faced the challenge of rebuilding their backline with new faces. They began with Henderson, a player who had only one and a half years of experience in the elite league since joining Hammers from non-league side Ngwanje FC. This signing has proven to be arguably one of the team’s worst pieces of business.
Bullets subsequently signed Blessings Joseph, whom Mponda had previously worked with during his time at Wizards FC. However, at 29, Joseph was already considered past his prime when he joined from Chitipa United, where he had spent two seasons. Despite concerns about his age, Joseph has become one of Mponda’s best defensive signings, alongside Andrew Jovinala.
Of Mponda’s four signings in his defensive rebuild, only two have performed above average: Jovinala and Joseph. Henry Chiwaya and Henderson have failed to make the expected impact.
