Midfielder Isaac Kaliati could become a free agent as his contract standoff with Mighty Wanderers continues, with an agreement reached two months ago yet to be formalized.

The Nomads offered Kaliati a contract extension in May, but negotiations stalled when the player sought terms that would place him among the club’s top earners.

While both parties reached an agreement several months ago, the club has yet to present a contract for signing, according to a source close to the negotiations who spoke to Wa Mpira.

“The deal is yet to be signed. Yes, they agreed but it’s not signed yet. I don’t know what’s causing the delay, but the agreement is still there,” the source said.

Attempts to reach the club’s Chief Executive Officer for comment were unsuccessful.

James Kasambala, Kaliati’s representative, confirmed the development but said he remains unclear about the cause of the delays.

“We are having discussions with several clubs, both local and international teams. They are interested in Isaac Kaliati’s services,” Kasambala said.

“But Isaac has been at Wanderers for a long time, and we don’t want him to leave without the club’s blessings. We are placing the club at the forefront because that’s his home.

“We reached an agreement on the contract extension so long ago. Counsel David Kanyenda called me months ago saying they had agreed with our demands and terms, but we are yet to sign the deal.”

Kaliati has been an influential figure for the club since joining from Mighty Tigers in 2015 alongside Stanley Sanudi.

Last season, the midfielder was the TNM Super League’s top scorer with 17 goals—a remarkable achievement for a player in his position. This season, despite limited playing time, he has contributed three league goals when called upon.

With his contract expiring in December—just two months away—Kaliati is now eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with another team.
