It was a highly contested match between the two security agencies which saw the home side controlling ball possession with stylish play. However, the soldiers from Mvera started playing long balls which Eagles struggled to deal with.
In the first half, both teams created few scoring chances but failed to convert them, ending 0-0. In the second half, both teams pushed for a goal, but the game was physical and characterized by numerous stoppages.
As time was running out, current leaders Eagles Reserve made triple substitutions with Juma Yatina, Willex Ngwenya, and Enock Jobo replacing Innocent Zambira, Blessings Kavulala, and Madalitso Khamula.
The substitutions brought stability to the team. Jobo, operating from the left wing, was able to penetrate through Armour Battalion’s defense and take shots on goal, forcing the soldiers’ goalkeeper into critical saves on several occasions. In the 78th minute, he scored for the home side.
Saturday’s victory took Blue Eagles Reserve’s tally to 38 points as they intensified their championship ambitions, opening a five-point gap with second-placed Extreme FC (33 points) and a seven-point gap with third-placed Shire Wimbe (31 points).
Eagles Reserve goalkeeper Wisdom Khuni was voted player of the match and received MK50,000 cash from the Central Region Football Association (CRFA). This was icing on the cake for the newly recruited goalkeeper who was handed his debut by the technical panel.
Both Wisdom Khuni and Enock Jobo were registered during the just-closed CRFA mid-season transfer window.
Assistant coach Alupheus Nyoni praised the boys for their superb performance in earning maximum points.
“We are excited about their performance today, and we believe that when they fully gel with their teammates, we will definitely have a force to be reckoned with. I’m happy we started the second round with a victory,” said Nyoni.
